stone portraits
Upon spending the summer of 2025 in Glacier National Park, a place where mountains laid their tails into the east facing prairies and where the big sky spread in a vast blue dome, I found myself most enamored with what I found right at my fingers and toes. From flowers, mosses, and grasses growing right alongside the trails, to stromatolites popping up like ancient graveyards in the hanging valleys, and to the colorful, twisting and folded pebbles that dappled the shores of Lake McDonald, everything underfoot became a friend I wanted to get to know. What better way than to draw their portraits, giving them life in the intimate process of documenting their tones, creases, and dressings.
